Research and Innovation Development

Increase the maturity of innovation so that it is ready to be commercialized and have an impact.

The ability of technology becomes one of the essential foundations of understanding the readiness of an innovation to move towards the next development stage. Therefore,Technology Readness Level (TRL) Assessment at DHKT is not done based on internal innovators assessment, but through an accessory process that involves experts.

DHKT collaborates withDirectorate Research and Innovation (DRI) ITBformTRL Measurement Committee... which has been officially established by the Vice-Director's Decision of Innovation. This committee is made up of senior teachers representing various faculty and schools in ITB, so that judgment can consider the characteristics of technology from different areas of science.

Before running the accessory process, the entire committee followedtraining and perception alignmentheld together by DRI and DHKT. This move is essential to making sure that each accessory uses a skeleton, indicator and standard proof which is consistent in determining the level of technology readiness.

Through this process,tRL value is not just a number, but it's a result of evidence-based evaluation (each) which gives a more objective picture of the position of technological maturity and innovation readiness to move to the next stage.

PINEMA: Intellligent innovation for Commercialization Readness Assessment

technically. Some have big market opportunities, but still need to reinforce production. There's also promising innovation, but it doesn't have a partner, business model, or an ecosystem enough to take it to the next stage.

Leaving of such needs,DHKT ITB developed PINEMAas a platform that helps look at the readiness of innovation more fully and translates it into a more directed development step.

PINEMA doesn't just ask questions,"How mature is this technology?"but also"What still needs to be reinforced?","Where is this potentially developed innovation?", and more importantly,"What's the next step that needs to be done?"

Watching Innovation through 6 Dimensions

PINEMA saw that the journey from research to innovation had an impact not only determined by the stability of technology. Therefore, every innovation mapped throughsix dimensions of maturitythat completes each other.

1. Technology Readness
It describes the level of technological maturity, from concept and early proof to technology ready to apply. The TRL assessment in ITB was carried out through an accessory mechanism involving the TRL Measurement Committee.

2. Readness Market
Looking at the extent where innovation has understood the needs of users and markets. This dimension helps to answer whether there is a real problem, which is to be solved, who is the next user, and how strong is the market acceptance of innovation.

3. Commercial & Investment Readness
Judging the readiness of innovation to evolve into a viable commercial opportunity, including the proposition of value, business models, the need for funding, the potential for income, and the interest of innovation for partners and investors.

Four. Readness Manufacturing
Looking at innovation skills to move from prototype to production or implementation on a larger scale. In it includes the readiness of the production process, the raw materials, the facilities, the quality, the cost and the ability to doscale-up.

5. Sustainability Readness
Ensuring that innovation is not only technological and economic, but also considering its impact on the environment and society. This dimension helps look at the potential contributions innovation to the creation of more sustainable values.

Six. Ecosystem Readness
Not all innovation can run itself. This dimension sees the readiness of supporting ecosystems, such as industrial partners, governments, regulators, investors, users, suppliers, or other institutions necessary for innovation to evolve and implement.

How does PINEMA work?

Pinema works like atravel map innovation.

The process begins by gathering information and evidence of innovation development. The data was then used to buildInnovation Readness Profilebased on six dimensions of PINEMA. This way, innovators and DHKT can see not only the strong parts, but alsogapthat still impedes innovation travel.

The result of acements later translated intoaction recommendation or development sprint. If technology is mature enough but market validation is still low, for example, then the next priority is not only increasing technology, it's doingcustom discovery, testing user needs, or market validation. On the contrary, innovation with markets that are beginning to form but are not ready to be produced on a larger scale will require reinforcement on the manufacturing aspect of manufacturing andscale-up.

Thus, PINEMA does not stop onassertion, but moving towardsaction:

From Power To Innovation Pathway

One of the important functions of PINEMA is helping DHKT and innovators recognizeinnovation pathwaythe most potential for an ITB innovation.

Not all innovation must end by establishingstartup. Some technology might be more appropriate developed throughlicense to industry, some needco@@, some have the potential to benew venture or spin-off, while other innovations can be directed towardsjoint implementation of government, community, or other strategic partners.

Pathway recommendations are not determined based on just one score. PINEMA reads the combination of stability of the sixth dimension, technology characters, market opportunities, production readiness, the aspect of sustainability, as well as the power of the ecosystem available. Therefore, recommended pathway can grow as it increases in growth.

PINEMA ultimately helps answer three simple but important questions for each innovation:

Where are we now?
Where are the positions of innovation today?

What should we strengthen next?
What needs to be reinforced so innovation can move forward?

Which pathway should we pursue?
What is the most potential path of development and commercial?

Through PINEMA, DHKT wants to build more and more innovation management processesbased on evidence, directional and adaptive. Not just gather technology, but understand each journey innovation and help find the most appropriate steps and paths to take it fromresearch results are headed towards implementation, markets, and greater impact.

A good idea requires more than just space to evolve. To move from research results to technology that can be tested, developed, and eventually used by society or industry, an innovation requiresthe funding support at every stage of his journey.

DHKT ITB helps open and connect the various opportunities of financing for ITB research research innovation. Funding is not taken solely as support to run research, but asan enabler that helps innovation move to a higher level of maturity, validation, scale-up, up to implementation and commercial.

In general, support for managing and facilitated innovation research funding comes from three major sources.

1. PRIME STEP - Pushing Innovation To Hilirization · Global Voices

One of the sources of strategic financing isPRIME SPEP, programs that gain support funding fromAsian Development Bank (ADB).

Through this program, ITB gets space to strengthen the ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, including supporting technology development to not stop at research or prototypes.

Funding is directed to help innovation through many important stages of its journey, such as technology development and perfecting, validation, readiness to market, collaboration development, to the activities that support the hillirization process.

Thus, PRIME STEP is not only a source of funding, but also an instrument foraccelerating ITB innovation trip from research to impact.

2. Government Innovation Research Funding

DHKT also connects and facilitates ITB innovators to acquire variousthe government provides research and innovation funding program, including a program organized by the ministry that is in the face of higher education, science and technology andEducation Fund Maintainer (LPDP).

Various government funding schemes give researchers an opportunity to continue the development of technology, to conduct testing and validation, to build prototypes, to increase technology readiness, and to strengthen collaboration with partners.

Government programs are also encouraging research that has a path to utilization. It means that the success of research is not only by the discovery of new knowledge, but by its ability to answer real matters and benefit society and industry.

One example of the development of ITB innovation isan autonomous electrical tram based on artificial intelligence developed with INKA PT, who got the support for innovative research development from LPDP and DHKT ITB.

3. Research Funding through Industrial Collection

Not all innovation must be developed through grant. When industry needs meet with research competence and ITB technology, research collaboration with industryit can be a cost lane and a path to implementation.

Through this scheme, companies can work with ITB researchers to develop new technologies, solve the technology problems that industry faces, doproof of conception, testing and validation, development prototypesscale-uptechnology.

Industrial funding has strategic value because since the beginning of innovation developed closer toreal problems, real users, and real market.

Collaborations like this can also evolve further intoco- developmenta technology license, co-production, as well as any other commercial partnership.

The financing as part of the Innovation Travel

For DHKT, the important question is not just"Where does innovation get funding from?"but also"What kind of funding does innovation need most at this stage?"

Each innovation has a different level of maturity and need. Technology at the earliest stage may require funding for prototype validation and development. More advanced technology may require industrial testing,scale-up, certification, market validation, or preparation for commercial.

Therefore, the financing of innovation research needs to be placed as part ofinnovation journey:

Research

Through the combinationPRlME STEP, government funding, as well as industrial cooperation, DHKT is attempting to build bridges to innovate ITB has the right resources and partners to keep moving.

The goal is simple:so that more and more ITB research doesn't stop as knowledge and prototypes, but evolved into innovation used, creating values, and having real impact on Indonesia.

Carrying an ITB innovation connected to the world

Developing innovation isn't always enough to do in the lab itself. At some stage, an innovator needs a new perspective, a different skill set, a more advanced facility, an experience of another ecosystem, or a partner who can help bring his innovation to the next level.

PRIME STEP Fellowship

This Fellowship is part of the Promoting Research and Innovation Through Modern and Effective Science and Technology Parks (PRIME SPEP) which is currently one of DHKT's instruments to strengthen the innovation and ecosystem Science and Technology Park ITB.

Through this program, participants can develop collaboration with colleges, research agencies, industry, Science and Technology Park, innovation hubs, and other international institutions that have the competence to suit their innovation development needs.

Two Fellowship, Two Need

Each innovator has a different need. Some already have the technology and need partners to make the innovation more mature. There are also those who need new knowledge, experience, and networks before they can take their innovations further.

Therefore, PRIME SPEP Fellowship DHKT offers two kinds of partnership.

01 - Fellowship Enhancing Innovation

For innovators who want to bring their technology one step ahead.

Innovation Enforcement Fellowship is devoted especially to professors and research teams who are developing products of innovation and need international collaboration to improve its quality and readiness of innovation.

Participants can work with researchers at destination institutions, develop methodology or experimental design, perfect prototypes and systems, utilize unavailable lab facilities on ITB, doingknowledge transfer, to build a technological development plan with international partners.

In the 2026 program, this scheme was directed to innovation with the Technology Readness Level above 6, so that the Fellowship became an opportunity to strengthen the technology that has progressed to get closer to implementation and hibernation.

In other words, participants not only go to study, but go with an innovation to develop together.

02 - Fellowship Enhancing Inovator Capacity

Because powerful technologies also need powerful innovators and ecosystems.

Not all the need for innovation development is in the lab. The ability to understand the hibernation of technology, managing innovation, buildingstartup, developing Science and Technology Park, and building international networks also deciding the success of innovation.

Fellowship Inovator Enforcement Firm gives tutoring ITB to take training, brief courses, workshops, bootcamp, benchmarking, intermediaries, other capacity development programs in international institutions in computing.

Participants can also learn directly frominnovation hub, business incubator, research center, Science and Technology Park, experts, practitioners, and maintainers of innovation across the country.

It's not just about getting international experience. Every participant is expected to go back with knowledge, competence, networking and good practice that can be applied again to strengthen ITB innovation and ecosystem innovation.

From Fellowship Into Collaboration

For DHKT, the Fellowship is not a journey that stops when the participants return to Indonesia.

Instead the most important question is:

"What changed after the fellow ship?"

Participants are encouraged to bring home something actionable - whether it's an increase in quality innovation, new methods, new competence, access to facilities and expertise, or relationships with international partners.

From a fellow ship to shared research, exchange of researchers, technological development, publication, institutional collaboration, to the odds of long-term innovation.

Therefore, every fellow ship also hasfollow-up plan. Knowledge and experience obtained are expected to be shared through dismissal activities so that the benefits of the program do not stop at one individual, but can further strengthen the ITB innovation community.

Connecting ITB Innovation to the World

The PRIME SPEP Fellowship is part of the DHKT effort to build more open and connected ITB innovations.

This program provides room for innovators to get out of their familiar environment, meet new skills, see how innovation is developed elsewhere, and find the right partner for the next trip.

In the end, the fellow ship is not just about where an innovator goes, but about what he brings back and how it helps the innovation of ITB move further.

Learn globally. Collaborate meaningfully. Bring the impact home.
