BANDUNG, DKST.ITB.AC.ID – ITB's Regional Directorate of Science and Technology (DKST) received a working visit from a company from South Korea, Dongmin (㈜동민), on Monday (23/2/2026).
Taking place at ITB Innovation Park, this meeting aims to explore the potential of Indonesia's natural resources, especially seaweed, as a raw material for industrial packaging innovation and product development in the pharmaceutical or biomedical fields.

The Dongmin delegation led by CEO Lee Han Lim attended accompanied by representatives of the ITB Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI). The group was welcomed by the management of DKST ITB, namely the Head of the Sub-directorate of Programs, Monitoring and Evaluation, Sigit Purwanto, S.T., M.T., and the Head of the Sub-directorate of Asset Management and Information Systems, Daris Qodarisman Nasir, S.Pd., M.Sc.
In this meeting, Sigit Purwanto explained the function of DKST as a downstream facility that accelerates innovation from Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 7 to 9. This explanation provides an illustration of ITB's readiness to bridge academic research to industrial commercialization.
Dongmin, who owns the Corporate Research Institute, expressed strategic interest in developing environmentally friendly materials made from seaweed. To support this, the agenda continued with a direct visit to the EBM Scitech (Engineering in Biomedicine) laboratory which is located on the 8th floor of the ITB Innovation Park Building. This facility is relevant to the development of biomedical engineering and pharmaceutical materials that Dongmin is currently exploring.

As a comprehensive step that integrates the ITB research ecosystem, the Dongmin delegation is scheduled to continue its visit to the ITB Ganesa Campus. There, the delegation will hold an in-depth meeting with the Director of DRI ITB, Prof. Dr. apt. Elfahmi, S.Sc., M.Si. The presence of Prof. Elfahmi, who is also an expert from the Pharmaceutical Biology Expertise Group at the ITB School of Pharmacy, is expected to be able to strengthen collaboration at the basic research stage (TRL 1-6) before the innovation is downstreamed through the DKST facility.
