Bandung, lpik.itb.ac.id – On Friday (23/2), at the Teluk Lamong Container Terminal, Surabaya, a product was launched as a result of research by ITB in collaboration with partners, AGV CTT (Automated Guided Vehicle Combine Terminal Tractor). AGV CTT technology is the result of research Bandung Institute of Technology in collaboration with Pelindo and PT. INKA, with additional support from PT. Innovation and funding through research schemes by Education Fund Management Institution.
As an important gateway for global trade, ports face challenges such as logistics congestion and operational costs. The development of AGV CTT, an automated truck from ITB research, is an innovative solution with automation technology, sensitive object detection and precise navigation. Supported by a drone control system, AGV CTT can operate automatically and can be monitored easily.
AGV technology development began in 2016. By 2018 AGV technology was breaking through to an impressive TKT, with TKT 4 in laboratory scale prototype testing for AGV controls and TKT 6 for AGV navigation systems. Furthermore, in 2019-2021, through RISPRO LPDP funding, increase the AGV TKT to the next level, achieving TKT 5 for the platform and TKT 7 for the navigation system in relevant environmental tests.
Collaboration with Bamec and PT. Innovation also produces smaller container products. The development process continues in the second year (2021-2022) involving the implementation of the algorithms developed in the first year towards a full scale AGV system. The development of a full scale AGV was carried out by modifying a semi-automatic truck owned by PT. Indonesian port and operated by PT. Teluk Lamong Terminal, known as the Combined Terminal Tracker.
In 2023-2024, the automatic docking system was successfully implemented, allowing CTT AGVs to operate automatically and precisely without operator assistance or special modifications to the container. Additionally, a ground control monitoring system was launched, serving as a bridge between human operators and the automatically operating AGV Container. The ground control control system ensures maximum control at every step. During the process of creating this sophisticated system, the research team was strengthened by the involvement of PT. Cinovasi, assists in the implementation and testing of algorithm systems.
AGV CTT has changed the operational dynamics at Teluk Lamong Terminal, demonstrating its positive impact on operational efficiency. Previously, reliance on manual operations and conventional systems posed challenges, with container movement times and the risk of human error being major concerns. The use of advanced navigation systems and automated control technology not only reduces the risk of human error but also significantly increases accuracy. AGV CTT is more than just technology; it is a comprehensive solution that changes the operational paradigm of container terminals, marking an important step towards a smarter, more efficient and sustainable future.
