ITB and PT INKA Collaborate to Deliver Smart, Environmentally Friendly Transport: Battery-Powered Autonomous Tram Trial in Solo

Blung, dkst.itb.ac.id- ITB (ITB) and INKA (brasero) Institute of Technology collaborates a battery-powered autonomous tram that was tested on Slamet Riyadi Street, Solo. This project is part of the innovation of sustainable transportation developed over the last three years. This tram was designed to operate in mixed traffic (mixed traffic), and expected to be a safe and sustainable public mobility solution in the future.

This autonomous tram is equipped with sentic technologyor like cameras, radar, liDAR, and GNSS, connected to artificial intelligence systems. This technology allows the tram to recognize the environment, even in various weather conditions, and make self-control decisions through the systemdrive by wire. With 200 kWh-powered batteries, this tram can travel up to 90 km in one charge, making it efficient and sustainable.

Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended a live trial of this tram at Purwosari Station on November 2, 2024, accompanied local officials and director of INKA PT operations. He hoped that the eco-friendly technology could be replicated in other cities in Indonesia, along with the priorities of President Prabowo's government in favor of reducing carbon emissions and creating cleaner and greener environments.<x id="7049"/><x id="7056"/>Prof. Steps Riyanto, head of the ITB research team in research associated with this project called "The Utonom System Development with Artifical Intelligence for Ononom Electrical Trems," explains that the development of the autonomous system for this tram is loaded with artificial intelligence technology that prioritizes efficiency and security. "This system allows the tram to operate with or without the driver in a mixed traffic environment. This tram also provides featuresobject detection, collision avoidance assist, driver attention warning, speed limit assistin modes with driver to increase security, and furnished with featurestraffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise controlandautonomous<x id="7049"/><x id="7056"/>emergency breaking systemin autonomous mode that prevents potential collisions. We hope that this research will be a new landmark for renewable renewable energy-based public transportation in Indonesia that will be applied in many major cities.

This collaboration brings great vision to present intelligent, safe, sustainable energy-based transportation in Indonesia. With the support of the innovative research development of the Education Fund (LPDP) and the Directorate of the Science Area and the Technology Institute of Filthy Technology (DKST ITB), this autonomous tram not only reduces carbon emissions but also provides opportunities for advanced transportation technology development in Indonesia. ITB and INKA PT hope, this test results can bring Indonesia one step closer to the cities of smarter and more modern cities in the future.
