ITB Becomes First Partner of Cambridge i-Teams in Indonesia

Bandung, dkst.itb.ac.id – Research plays a central role in forming the foundation for sustainable entrepreneurial development. Through this approach, innovation will become a real catalyst for economic growth and societal development. Through research, innovative ideas are explored, concepts are expanded, and deep understanding of challenges are overcome.

Downstreaming, or converting an idea into a tangible product or service, becomes a critical step after the research phase. This process not only involves prototype development and testing, but also requires an understanding of the market and customer needs. Downstreaming ensures that research results can have a real impact in the form of products or services that can improve everyday life.

When research is implemented well, creativity and innovation grow organically. In an ever-changing business world, competitive advantage often comes from the ability to continuously innovate. Research and downstreaming help create an environment where companies can continue to develop products and services that meet or even exceed customer expectations. It's not just about creating something new, but also improving what already exists. With a strong understanding of market trends, consumer needs and competition, research helps entrepreneurs design appropriate strategies and minimize possible risks.

Aware of the close relationship between research and downstreaming, is one of the missions of i-Teams program, a program initiated by MIT and continued by the University of Cambridge. i-Teams is revolutionizing how academic research impacts society. For more than a decade, i-Teams have driven the commercialization of university discoveries, driving social benefit through groundbreaking innovations.

i-Teams is a program designed to bring together multidisciplinary teams of students, researchers, and industry professionals to tackle real-world problems and develop innovative solutions. i-Teams programs typically involve identifying challenges faced by an industry or community, assembling teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise, and guiding them through a structured process to explore potential solutions. Participants gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, market research, and implementing academic research processes into practical applications.

With a legacy of success spanning over 10 years, i-Teams has expanded its knowledge transfer initiatives worldwide, fostering collaborations with universities to strengthen local entrepreneurial ecosystems.

The Bandung Institute of Technology is proud to stand as a pioneer in Indonesia, partnering with the Cambridge i-Teams team and the Center for Global Equality as part of the ASEAN i-Teams to deliver this transformative program to the university and the dynamic city of Bandung.
