ITB Innovation Park Facilitates Confocal Microscopy Mastery for Advanced Research

Blung,dskt.itb.ac.id-The ITB (ITB) Institute of Science and Technology Directorate continues to boost high-tech-based research capacity. One of the concrete steps was manifested through the rallying seminar"Super Resolution and Live Cell Imaging Using Confocal Microsoft", being held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in the 12th floor seminar room, ITB Innovation Park, Bdul Teknowpolis, Summarecon Bdul.

This event is held over cooperation between the DKST ITB, the Nanotechnology and Material Research Center (PPNN), and Nikon Singapore's industrial partners and the New Module International PT distributors of Nikon devices in Indonesia. This seminar is meant for academic sanitation, laboratory technicians, and researchers who need a deeper understanding of high-resolution cell imaging technologies.

As the keynote speaker, Ernest Cheah is as well as the Application Assistant Manager of Nikon Singapore, revealing the latest development in the confocal laser scanning microscopy, especially Nikon EClipse AXR series. This technology allows us to visualize cell structures in detail and reality-time, with an edge on scanning speed, high resolution, and observation capabilities of living cells.

During the session, participants not only get theoretical material, but also demonstrate direct use of tools. Through the technical explanation of Nikon's team, the participants were asked to understand the principles of the confocal system, multidimensional imagery, as well as its potential for utilization in biomedical research, pharmacy and other science.

This agenda is also part of a strategic plan to procure a confocal microscopy device in ITB Innovation Park, which will be function as a joint research facility based on optical imaging. With the presence of this device, the ITB research ecosystem in the Summarecon region is amplified by infrastructure that supports microresearch and nanoscopic research in precision.

The cooperation between the DKST, the PPNN, and Nikon are essential to the development of this agenda, both from the technical side and the development of the facility. The DKST, as a manager of the innovation area in the ITB environment, facilitates the integration of this activity with the direction of research development in Innovation Park.

It's got a positive response from participants of researchers, professors, students and lab technicians. In addition to expanding insight into cutting-edge imaging technology, this training also opened up a discussion room about the potential research-based optical collaboration.

Through activities like this, ITB expects more and more researchers and students to have a technical understanding of technology imaging and be able to integrate it on each research agenda. The presence of facilities and similar training is also expected to encourage stronger cross-disciplinary collaboration in the future.
