Bandunglpik.itb.ac.id<x id="7049"/><x id="7056"/>– In order to commemorate the 24th World Intellectual Property Day on April 26, 2024, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) held a series of activities themed "Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals: Building a Future with Innovation and Creativity”. One of the main events in this commemoration is the Patent Expo and Business Forum which takes place on 11 to 13 June 2024 at theShangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. This activity is designed to bridge the gap between inventors and industry, with the aim of encouraging the commercialization of domestic innovation.
ITB through the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (LPIK) participated in this Patent Expo, exhibiting various superior innovation products. The products on display include methods and tools for making ion-exchange membranes (ultrafitration products), composite materials based on cow dung (COWKA products), propolis-based gauze for wound treatment, catfish oil gummy, fecal soap, and early detection of cardiovascular disease (Niva) technology. Theseproducts are research results that are expected to attract industry interest for commercialization.
This activity began with the preparation of booths and loading of exhibits on the first day. On June 12, the business forum began with an Intellectual Property endowment and a panel discussion involving resource persons from various sectors, including Kadin Indonesia, BRIN, and the Ministry of Agriculture. This discussion provides insight into the importance of collaboration between inventors and industry to encourage the downstreaming of patent products.
Rifan Fikri, Associate Expert Patent Examiner from DJKI, explained that the Indonesian Patent Expo aims to bridge the gap between inventors and industry. This activity is a means to introduce innovation from universities to industry, so that the resulting technology can be developed and marketed. Rifan hopes that this activity can be a solution to the "death valley" of innovation, where many patents have not been successfully commercialized.
On the second day, the business forum was filled with panel discussions and business talks presenting various speakers, including from Tokopedia, PT Pertamina, and ASPAKI. Presentations from 38 exhibitors, including LPIK ITB, show technological advances produced by domestic inventors. Ikhsan Prasetyo, technology transfer assistant of LPIK ITB presented the commercialization process that has been carried out by ITB, which is expected to increase understanding and networking between intellectual property centers and industrial partners.
Yuni Puji Astuti from Science Techno Park Bogor Agricultural Institute and Akvis Fauzi from PT Pertamina Persero appreciated DJKI's efforts in encouraging patent commercialization and developing the intellectual property ecosystem in Indonesia. They hope that this activity can be held regularly to strengthen the relationship between education and industry, as well as increase the economic benefits of the resulting innovation.
Through this year's Patent Expo and Business Forum, DJKI hopes that similar activities can continue to be an effective platform to connect inventors with industry. This step is in line with the government's vision to make Indonesia a highly competitive country in the field of innovation and technology. Collaboration is expected to spawn new innovations that support economic development and community welfare.
